The Phillies Home Run Derby along with the Lancaster County Challenger Division's opening Day festivities will be held at Solanco Little League in Quarryville on Sunday, May 18. The Philadelphia Phillies & Providence Auto at the Buck will be sponsoring the Home Run Derby again this year. The contest is open to all boys and girls age 7-15 and will be held at the Little League Complex located on RT 472. The starting time is 1 p.m. Official entry forms will be available at the field the day of the contest and registration starts at noon.Home Run Derby uses an automatic pitching machine to throw 10 good pitches to each contestant. There are different age brackets for baseball and softballl. Points are scored based on the distance that the fair ball hits for a home run. The speed of the pitch and distance of the hit changes with each age group. The goal of the Derby is to have fun and improve hitting for all participants.
